ABOUT
OLIVIER

Olivier Christian is a singing, voice, and confidence coach. He studied at institutions such as The Australian Institute Of Music - where he received his Degree In Music, NIDA, The Stella Adler Academy in Los Angeles, DUTI, SDC, and The Hub Studio. With Oliviers industry musical knowledge, his vision for creating, and the desire to bring together communities who need connection most, The Loud & Proud Choir was born.

The LGBTQIA+ community is full of people in search of connection – introverts who want to meet similar people, but may not feel safe, understood or welcomed in other more extroverted settings. Olivier decided it was time for more joyous, healthy outlets for such a loving community

OUR MISSION

Our mission at Loud & Proud is to create a safe space and sense of community for the people truly longing for it. It is to give LGBTQIA+ musicians work in Australia, and to raise money for the least fortunate in our community - with four fundraising concerts each year!

What are people saying?

  • “My favourite part of the choir has been the amazing community! Everyone here is so lovely and supportive. The choir offered me a safe and uplifting space when I needed it the most and I'm really grateful for that.”

    —Sam

  • “It is so diverse, so fun, and there is no pressure to be something or someone you’re not. Oh, and of course, the singing! I love that we do musical theatre songs!! It is such a wholesome and rewarding thing to sing as a group, AND we also raise money for queer charity’s - win win!!”

    —Emma

  • “I moved from Canada to Sydney and immediately went looking for my queer community and found it at Loud & Proud Choir! From day one I’ve felt so welcome, I’m learning something new every week, and I’ve made genuine friends along the way. It’s made settling into a new country way easier and way more fun”

    —Ziggie

  • “L&P has offered me a safe space to practise a long-forgotten hobby of mine, while allowing me to meet so many like-minded and friendly people from our community. There’s no judgement and everyone comes to have a bit of fun!”

    —Nilay

The Loud and Proud Choir – Code of Conduct

The Loud and Proud Choir (L&P) is a welcoming, inclusive and respectful community, with a strong commitment to creating a safe space for LGBTQIA+ identifying individuals and allies. Being a part of L&P means contributing to an environment where people feel safe, valued, and able to participate fully.

1. Agreement to Policies

By enrolling in, attending, or participating in The Loud and Proud Choir (L&P), you agree to the L&P Code of Conduct. The L&P code of conduct, outlined in this document, includes the Commitment to a Safe & Inclusive Space, Alcohol and Other Drugs and Raising Concerns and How We Respond policies.

2. Scope

Any person or business employed by The Loud & Proud Choir (L&P), such as vendors, music professionals, venues hosting space-for-hire, collaborating performers, or associated organisations that may encounter L&P for collaborative community initiatives, are considered as affiliates to L&P.

L&P acknowledges that while these affiliates are not direct participants of L&P choral body (or “L&P members”), L&P maintains its continued commitment to being a proudly welcoming, safe, inclusive and respectful community space for the LGBTQIA+ community. It is therefore L&P’s expectation that L&P members approach the broader community with the same commitment to safe, respectful and inclusive behaviour as they would to internal members of L&P.

3. Commitment to a Safe & Inclusive Space Policy

The Loud and Proud Choir (L&P) is a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all individuals, with a passion for creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ identifying individuals. Participation in L&P is conditional on maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment, which includes adhering to the “Commitment to a Safe and Inclusive Space” policy. L&P takes all concerns about bullying, discrimination and harassment seriously and will respond in a fair, proportionate and timely way to uphold safety of the community.

While this list is not exhaustive, some examples of bullying, discrimination or harassment include:

*  Repeated, unreasonable behaviour directed towards one or more persons, which creates a risk to health and safety.

* Ableist, ageist, homophobic, misogynistic, racist, sexist and/or transphobic behaviours towards others.

* Unwanted sexual behaviour that regardless of intent makes a person feel offended, humiliated, insulted, ridiculed or intimidated. The behaviour can be obvious or indirect, physical or verbal, via online, and be a one-off occurrence or ongoing.

* Intimidation, threats, or aggressive behaviour.

This includes behaviour by members or affiliates that occurs outside official L&P activities, where it has a direct and reasonable impact on the safety, wellbeing or participation of individuals within the L&P community.

4. Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy

To ensure a safe and professional environment, attending any choir activity under the influence of illicit drugs or alcohol is prohibited. The possession, use, or distribution of illegal substances at any L&P activity is also prohibited. Failure to comply may result in removal from participation and may lead to permanent exclusion.

It is noted that L&P members will often meet after rehearsals and performances for informal social gatherings, where alcohol consumption is commonplace. L&P acknowledges these informal social gatherings are an organic outcome of the development of a community space, and explicitly acknowledges that members engaging in alcohol consumption outside official L&P events, such as this, are not in breach of the Alcohol and Other Drugs policy.

L&P notes this does not negate the standards and expectations outlined in the Commitment to a Safe & Inclusive Space policy.

5. Raising Concerns and How We Respond

L&P reserves the right to take action in response to behaviour that does not meet the expectations set out in this Code of Conduct, including the Commitment to a Safe & Inclusive Space and Alcohol and Other Drugs policies. This includes behaviour occurring during L&P activities (such as rehearsals and performances), as well as behaviour outside of these activities where it has a direct and reasonable impact on the safety, wellbeing or participation of members of the L&P community.

If you experience or witness behaviour that does not align with this Code of Conduct, you are encouraged to speak with the L&P Manager or a designated contact person.

L&P will:

* listen and take concerns seriously

* assess the situation based on available information

* prioritise the safety and wellbeing of those impacted

* respond in a way that is fair, balanced and proportionate

Actions may include:

* guidance or informal resolution

* setting clear expectations for behaviour

* restricting participation in certain activities

* temporary or permanent removal from L&P

Privacy will be respected where possible. In some cases, information may need to be shared

to appropriately respond to a concern.

6. Contact Person

The current contact person pertaining to this Code of Conduct is the L&P owner and manager, Oliver Christian. Oliver is available during L&P rehearsal hours in-person, as well as via email at theloudandproudchoir@gmail.com.

Please note: Slight details may change and be adjusted over time to ensure everyone involved remains safe and supported.
